Creative, Unique and Memorable Humanist Wedding Ceremonies in Harrogate, Leeds, North Yorkshire and The Yorkshire Dales
If you are looking for a highly-personalised, creative, non-religious, wedding ceremony in Harrogate, Leeds, York, the Yorkshire Dales, or anywhere else in Yorkshire, and are looking for a friendly, relaxed and experienced humanist wedding celebrant, you're in the right place!
A humanist wedding is like any other wedding in terms of importance, significance and sense of occasion - but much more unique, heartfelt, flexible and magical. It's all about you!
As a full time humanist celebrant, a professional, creative writer, an incurable romantic and a smiley public speaker, I write and deliver beautiful, love-fuelled, creative, moving, totally bespoke ceremonies that, with you and your story central to the script, are designed for everyone to enjoy.
Whatever spiritual or religious belief you and your families hold; whatever gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity you define yourself as (if any) and whatever age you are, the wedding ceremonies I write and deliver are a wonderful, special and inclusive way to mark, celebrate and remember one of the most important days in your lives.
Your wedding ceremony is a celebration of your love, written fresh each time for each couple, to completely reflect your stories, your personalities and your wishes, with your own vows, a choice of symbolic acts, heartfelt sincerity, guest and family involvement, laughter, engagement and often tears of loveliness! And unlike in a civil or religious ceremony, your love story and your vows - in fact your whole wedding script - is documented, printed and presented to you as a keepsake for you or your children to read in years to come. What's not to love?!
There are no rules. You choose how traditional or boho you would like it, and I create the perfect ceremony for you! This means that each and every ceremony is as far from the constraints of a civil or religious ceremony as you can imagine! It's your wedding - have it your way!
"There are many good celebrants, but Rachael is probably the best. Looking around you'll find a sea of sameness, in a good way - humanist ceremonies are lovely - but we're so glad we found Rachael. Meeting up was easy and the process a breeze. What mattered most to us was the balance of love and fun Rachael created for us.
Reading the draft ceremony, which was a pitch perfect mix of emotion and laugh out loud, instantly put us at ease. Rachael's advantage here is her writing background, she is a gifted story writer and teller, this is the most important part of a humanist ceremony. Of course, on our big day, Rachael also deliverd it all with aplomb. 5 stars doesn't cover it, don't hesitate in speaking with Rachael. - worth every penny"

No two ceremonies are the same because no two couples are the same. Whatever style you choose, your wedding ceremony will be totally YOU. All ceremonies usually include beautiful words about love and marriage, your own unique vows, your very own love story, a couple of symbolic acts such as wedding ring exchanges, hand fasting, oath stone, loving cup or cake ceremonies. There is always music and maybe song, one or two poems or readings, perhaps some secret words from the heart and a little guest participation!
With one of my humanist wedding ceremonies, you can be as traditional or as off the wall as you like!

You can keep to tradition or be as creative as you like and the great thing about a humanist wedding is that you can have it anywhere - there is no need for the venue to be licensed. This means that your wedding will be even more unique and special to you. You can hold it in your garden, in a woodland glade, on a beach, in a marquee, at a festival themed wedding in a field or in your favourite pub - which can save you money as well as making the whole day easier for your guests to navigate! You just need to do the legal registration of the ceremony at another time - in the days or weeks beforehand, afterwards on even on the same day. The ceremony and the celebration with friends and family mark your wedding day, not the legal paperwork!
As an experienced humanist wedding celebrant, I will be there to smile with you, and guide you every step of the way. We work together to plan the ceremony, and once I have written the script, you have total editorial control of your story, your vows and readings, your symbolic acts, your music and anything else you would like me to include.
I'm based in Harrogate and work in Leeds and York areas as well as throughout the Yorkshire Dales, Knaresborough, Wetherby, Ripon, Masham, Bolton Abbey, Skipton, Otley, Ilkley, Thirsk, Northallerton and beyond.
I'm a recommended celebrant at many beautiful and prestige venues in Yorkshire, including the Swinton Estate, Hazlewood Castle, The Coniston Hotel, Wood Hall, The Tithe Barn, The Devonshire Arms and The Double Tree Hilton Majestic Hotel - but am just as happy conducting a wedding in a tipi, a village hall or in a private garden or field!
Your wedding can be as formal, casual, moving and/or fun as you like. Whatever you choose, it’s a ceremony created just for you, and you and your guests will remember it warmly for the rest of your lives.
The ceremony was an absolute success and so meaningful to us both, it suited us as a couple down to the ground. I’m so grateful to Rachael for doing an incredible job and I would 100% recommend her without reservation - what a wonderful thing to be able to do for others on the most special day of their lives. Dave and I can’t thank you enough. A star!" - Ruth and Dave
"We received endless compliments throughout our wedding day about how the ceremony was so special, engaging and unique, with many saying it was the best they’d ever been to! There was the perfect balance of fun and laughs along with the ‘serious stuff,’ but Rachael’s ceremony set the tone for a perfect day." - Helen and Will
COVID 19 UPDATE: 16 August 2020
COVID19 UPDATE 27 December 2020:
Firstly, congratulations on your engagement and thanks for visiting my website!
Right now, the good news is that in Phase 2 areas (North Yorks as of today's date), wedding ceremonies and receptions can happen with up to 15 people with sit down receptions at Covid-secure venues.
This number excludes people working on the wedding (like me, your photographer, make up artist, videographer, musicians, venue staff etc) but masks should be worn by all, except the celebrant and the couple during the ceremony.
Weddings and receptions are still not allowed to take place in private houses or gardens or marquees in private gardens.
Beautiful, personalised, intimate weddings are the new big thing! You don't have to compromise on style and enjoyment even if your numbers aren't as maxed out as you'd like. (Roll on vaccination programme....!)
Why not get creative and have an intimate ceremony and a gorgeous wedding breakfast now for you and your immediate family and best friends, and then if you still want to party into the night, have big bash or even a re-wedding, complete with a renewal of vows ceremony in one or two years?!
