With a background in PR and writing, corporate event management, photography and video production, I’m a natural storyteller, a lover of people, a stickler for creativity and detail and I'm pretty unflappable, so I've been told that I'm a very calming influence in what can be a stressful build up to a wedding.
I’m a humanist by nature but I do like including visual, meaningful, non-religious symbolic acts and readings from other cultures and religions into my ceremonies – and I enjoy working with couples to create new ones! I have lots of ideas, but am open to anything - so just ask!
I love diversity in people, Everyone is unique and every single couple I meet have such powerful stories that can be woven into their script - with positivity, romance, some light hearted touches and a wealth of emotion and significance. So much goes into planning a wedding day and I really believe that a personal and memorable wedding ceremony should be the beating heart of it..
Being a celebrant means that I get to meet couples for a couple of hours to plan their ceremony, hear their stories, learn about their lives, chat through ideas, and really get to know them. I relish the challenge of crafting a completely unique script every time, with a perfect flow to ensure laughter, wonder and tears of joy. Each ceremony reflects a couple perfectly. (I also love getting great feedback about that!)
I’m a huge music fan, (I've been going to festivals for years!) - and I’ve created an extensive Spotify playlist for weddings to use as an inspiration resource. You can find this on my Music page. I also have a proper PA system with mics and various inputs for playing live or recorded music indoors or outdoors,
I also have a bank of readings, poems and song lyrics up my sleeve - some of which you can find on my Readings page.
I have lots of ideas for Vows and Symbolic Acts, and some of these can be found here on my website too, but it's when we meet, and then afterwards, when I write the script, based on our meeting, that the magic happens and everything comes together!
I’m fairly used to traveling for work so although most of my weddings are in beautiful Yorkshire; on request, I will also travel much further afield and overseas.
Nothing phases me! I have been known to be commissioned to write and deliver a full wedding ceremony with 24 hours notice – nothing is impossible and I am happy to attempt to rise to all challenges!
Above all, I feel absolutely privileged to be a wedding celebrant. It’s such a happy role that involves being allowed into the very heart of a couple’s lives for a small window – and results in a wedding day experience that they – and I – will always remember.
